A Child’s Joy

From Mike Munson: Administrator: Touch a Life Honduras

The sponsor of Geyson (Jason) Rivera Arguijo sent funds for a large food bag, pants/jeans, a T-shirt, underwear, socks, and a flashlight. This was the first time Rayan and I had taken a child to a store to select something. Geyson is an older teen boy who consistently comes to the Touch a Life Feeding Center in Cantarranas. He was deeply touched by the generosity of his sponsors in providing him with such gifts.

First, we drove to his home in the Mighty Mitsubishi (now 20 years old and still running) and took him to a clothing store. He said he had never bought new clothes before, so he had to call his mom to find out what to buy. With the funds, we were able to purchase him a new pair of pants, a new shirt, and new shoes. The clothing store, knowing what we were doing, gave us a 140 lps discount (about $5.25) off the purchase price, so we did not go over budget, and he was able to purchase the three items he needed.

When we finished at the clothing store. We told him we were going to the grocery store next. He was in shock to receive so much food. He eagerly went up and down the aisles selecting food, while texting his mother for more advice. We confirmed he had a refrigerator before including the chicken, ground beef, cheese, milk, and cereal for his family’s breakfasts. Plus, all the side items to make some family meals.

Rayan is struggling with the weight of the bags.

We want to say a hearty thank you to Frank and Mary Bargeloh from Ohio, as well as all of you who sponsored kids for us over the years. You have changed hundreds of lives. And now that we are beginning to generate income from small businesses, we can create jobs for “our kids.”

Geyson was in shock at all that was given to him and his family. When we arrived at his house, his mother was outside waiting. She was thoroughly thrilled by such generosity. The entire family came out to greet us, helping to carry bags and bags of food and a new set of clothes into their little house. They were immensely grateful.

Johanna and her son Geyson and family are happy and looking forward to a chicken dinner!

Every child we bring a sponsor’s gift to is naturally shy and introverted. The girls are even worse. But never mistake shyness for a lack of gratitude. And though we don’t currently do “sponsorships” anymore (except for those who are grandfathered in), you can be sure that your contributions to Touch a Life are still changing individual lives and families, and now, more than ever.

Did you know that every employee we have either grew up in one of our feeding centers or had family who worked in them? In this case, Geyson’s mother, Johanna, grew up in our Cantarranas center; in fact, she was among our first children and was sponsored for years by Cindee and Dale Dupaquier of Texas. They have maintained a relationship with Johanna to this day, as has my wife, Nolin. Thank you, guys.

From time to time, as needed, Johana still helps us. We hope to open a new feeding center in their area soon so we can feed more children, especially the poorest in our town, and they will no longer have to walk a mile in the rain to eat. Who knows, we may be able to give Johana a job!

Note:

To the churches and families that are supporting Rayan, thank you! He is filling my shoes and expanding our ministry, as Titus did on the island of Crete, where Paul started with one church, and Titus planted churches in every town and village. Rayan and his family of six are in Honduras, getting by on $2,000 a month, literally a third of what mission boards recommend. And from that, he also pays his ministry expenses. If you would like to help him with a gift or monthly support of any amount, go to https://tal.world/rayansilie/. You can also support Touch A Life by donating below.
