Greetings to all our personal supporters:
Nolin and I are back in Honduras, the place I call “home”. Serving here is like an endless, great dream that I hate to wake up from. But if our Father permits, I will be heading back to the Middle East in the fall and hopefully to Central Africa in the winter. We are developing ways to free our preachers from needing support by helping them start small businesses with which they can care for their families and have adequate funds for ministry while employing their families and church members. Pray for wisdom.
Visionary Trips:
So far this summer, we have had three groups and are looking forward to five more. Our next group has come before, and we expect a harvest greater than what we are already experiencing. We also have a new waterfall, or I should say, access to an old one that the Lord created. Everyone is loving it. I wish you would all come down one week and serve with us, no construction, just meeting people, feeding people, and meeting their needs as we share the Gospel, build up the local churches, and start new ones.
Touch A Life:
Five of our feeding centers are open only on Sundays, and the other five are open Monday-Friday, but a man in the group has asked us for a budget to turn them all into 5-day-a-week centers. He will give the entire budget to do so. I am also praying to open two more centers in the next two months. Of course, we are doing much of the same in other countries. Don’t forget, we are not just a Honduran ministry; we are global.
The Great Commission Fund:
In August 2024, our ministry income dropped by 50% and has only recently begun to grow back to about 35% below our former norm. As you can imagine, the result is that a number of preachers receive less support than they need, and some receive nothing at all. We weep over this, but we have done all we know ot do; still, it seems many folks in America no longer have the same financial standing as before, and many have lost their zeal for the Lord to be known worldwide. We focus on ourselves too much. Pray for revival in America; if not, the Lord may be finished using us and will move on to find willing servants elsewhere. To help address the preacher’s needs, our entire staff has forfeited all raises for the past three years, even as inflation has grown. We are pulling our belts tighter and would appreciate anything you can give to support these worthy preachers. Speaking of worthy preachers …
Smugglers:
We successfully smuggled a shipment of New Testament into Persia, as well as some satellite phones, so we could maintain contact with our people there. As you can imagine, many have died during the conflict due to bombs, but more have died at the hands of the regime, which is still alive and well. Iran supposedly is no longer bombing its neighbors, but they are still slaughtering their people. Anyone on the street is a target, and we have lost many of our people. Currently, the regime has targeted over 85,000 for execution, and we have pastors and members among them. I’ll write more about this in detail in our upcoming Great Commission Fund Quarterly Report.
In closing:
I want you to know that this ministry is not dependent on me. It is dependent on the preachers and you, the supporters. I am increasingly insignificant, and that is how I set up our ministry to begin with. It must live beyond me and my appointed replacement. I can see children now who will someday run this ministry in each county, and I am fulfilled. At this moment, every staff member and employee here in Honduras was once a sponsored child or has been with us from the beginning. The same is true around the world. The groups here have noted that, practically every day, no matter where we go, someone walks up to me to say hello. Someone we fed for a year, a decade, or more. Now they are growing, working, and living across the country, but they still
remember what we fed them, physically and spiritually. Thank you for that.
Remember, I still have some years left in me, so don’t abandon us. We’re just getting started!
For The King and His Kingdom,
Jon and Nolin Nelms
